12 : Rev Harold Salter Barrett – Vicar 1926-1951

Rev Harold Salter Barrett was born around 1875 and educated at Trinity College Cambridge, graduating in 1898, and received his theological training at Ely.   He was ordained deacon in 1900 and priest in the following year. He served as curate at Wolverhampton, and at St Andrew’s Willesden Green from 1913. He became Vicar of St Barnabas in 1926, and served for 25 years. During his incumbency the parish population increased markedly, with the building of the Brunswick Estate.   Following an anonymous donation of £400, the Upper (Sacristy) Room was added in 1936, designed by Shearman.   This had been part of Shearman’s original plan for the church in 1914.   Father Barrett retired in September 1951, at the age of 76, to the village of Roffey, and died on 30th January 1955.
